Hurt Motor Ends Tyler Walker's Trophy Cup Run |
By Gary Costa |
Tulare, CA (October 23-24, 2009) – The SC Motorsports team had high hopes going into last weekend's Trophy Cup race at the Tulare Thunderbowl. The team performed flawlessly Friday night, and things were looking strong for the 2009 King of California champion, Tyler Walker, until a hurt motor ended Walker's night on lap-47 of the 50 lap feature event. The race would also mark the teams' final race of a very successful 2009 season.
"We didn't want to end our season like this, but what are you going to do?," said Walker. "Tim (Kaeding) and Roth Motorsports did a great job, and we would like to congratulate them on their win."
Walker's evening would start out by qualifying the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 ninth quick out of the 67 cars that took time with a 13.564 racking up valuable points for Saturday's finale. In his heat race Walker would cross the finish line in the third position. Walker would then lineup eighth in the star-studded 30 lap feature. When the field went green, Walker beganhis charge to the front and got locked into a duel with ASCS National point leader, Shane Stewart. The two sliced through traffic both knowing that every car passed is valuable points earned. Stewart eventually held off the pesky Walker for the third spot, with Walker finishing fourth.
Walker would accumulate 266 points from his Friday's performance which positioned him third in points after Friday's event. Only Shane Stewart (278) and Tim Kaeding (269) would garner more points than the gasser from Los Angeles.
The driver who has scored 11 victories to his credit this season, would glide the Scott & Kathy Chastain owned mount around the Thunderbowl Raceway, crossing the line in the fifth spot in his first event of Saturday evening, a 10 lap heat race.
For the 50 lap feature event, Walker would start deep in the field gliding the pristine JEI into his 22nd starting spot. When the green lights flashed on, Walker immediately began picking cars off. However, the motor began stumbling, missing, and not giving Walker the horsepower that he needed to run the cushion. When he tried to put it up against the cushion, the motor would stumble and bog down. Walker somehow remained competitive with a sick motor and was running around eighth when the motor finally let go, ending Walker's night in the infield.
"The motor just wouldn't run. Under the red, my crew chief Lee (Lindgren) asked what we should do. He told me to try a different line, and I did. It was working out for a while, but the motor let go," the LA hot shoe said. "I can't complain, we had a great year, and I'm just so happy to be doing what I love the most – racing Sprint Cars. I would like to thank all of our sponsors and fans – you guys make all of this worthwhile and possible – thank you so much. I would also like to thank Scott, Kathy and everybody on this team – you guys are the best!"

Tyler Walker's Marysville Run Ends Early |
By Gary Costa
Marysville, CA (October 10, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team had something happen to them that's rarely been seen this season; mechanical failure with the car as Paul and Kathy Hawes played host to the 1st Annual Sherm Toller Gold Fever Open Saturday night at Marysville Raceway Park.
The event was held under ASCS Sprint Car rules which eliminated single car qualifying and instituted a heat race point system. With 36 cars signing in at the back gate, the field was divided into three 12-lap heat races and points were accumulated by a drivers finishing position and passing points. The competitors would then battle it out for a second 12-lap race that inverted the starting order from the 1st heat.
Walker would slide Scott & Kathy Chastain's, SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 into the third spot for his first of two 12-lap races. When the green flag flew, Walker patiently moved forward on the hooked-up surface and went upstairs and performed a "power move" going into turns 3-4 taking the lead, and immediately began to distance himself from the rest of the field.
Because of his win, Walker would start dead last in the field for the second heat. When the green flew, Walker immediately began trying to move forward, however a crimped brake line would slow his charge to the front. Not trying to push the issue and taking a chance to wreck the car, Walker smartly cruised around and finished fourth in his final race before the main event.
The hardworking SC Motorsports team charged out of the turn 1-2 bleachers immediately after the checkered flag dropped, toward the No. 24 to fix the brake problem. Walker was sitting alone in the trailer, gathering his thoughts for what was to come, while the crew was successful in repairing the brake line, and putting the finishing touches to the car.
Walker would accumulate the second highest in the points prior to the feature, and draw a "5 pill" for the 30-lap feature event. When the amber lights turned green, Walker quickly put himself into the fourth position, and was again being patient, waiting to pounce. However, on lap 8, a pinion shaft broke in the rear end, and a rare sight was to be seen; Walker sat broken in the infield, ending his night.
"It's just one of those nights. It's unfortunate, and out of our hands. We have had very little mechanical failure this year," Walker said. "The car felt good. We'll just gear up and look forward to the Trophy Cup."
The SC Motorsports team and Tyler Walker ask that you please keep Travis Rutz and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Tyler Walker Has Tough Gold Cup; Looks Forward To Upcoming 360 Races
|
By Gary Costa
Chico, CA (September 11-12, 2009) – One of the many things that the SC Motorsports team prides themselves in, is that they don't make excuses for things that happen to the car or things that may occur out on the racetrack. If they "screw-up" it's quickly admitted and addressed; that's why they have had the success that they've had. The Gold Cup was one of those races where no excuses were made after a dismal showing in Chico.
"We put ourselves in a bad spot after qualifying. The motor was running on six cylinders, and this is the end result," veteran crew chief Lee Lindgren commented. "We don't make excuses; we learn from them and move on - that's all that we can do."
Walker went out for his Friday qualifying laps, and turned a 12.561. The lap would be 33rd best, out of the 41 cars that took time. He then finished 7th in his heat race which put the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No 24 in the C main event which he went on to win. Walker than missed the transfer out of the B main event by one position after finishing fifth.
"I'm really disappointed - obviously. You can't get behind in this race," Walker said referring the point format. "We got behind, and it bit us. We all know that were a better team than this, and we know that we can run with these guys (The Outlaws)."
The team knew that Saturday would be an uphill battle. They would be faced with coming from the back of the C main event on Saturday night. When the green flag flew, Walker was doing all that he could on a hooked-up racetrack. Walker would get into a battle with Alissa Geving; however they would come together going into turn 3. Thankfully both cars didn't flip, and were able to rejoin the field. When racing resumed, Walker worked his way around Geving, and had his sights set on Bud Kaeding. Laps would run out, and essentially so was the teams Gold Cup as Walker finished eighth missing the transfer into the B main.
"Our finish doesn't reflect how good the car really was, because the track was so hooked-up," Walker reflected. "I'm still proud of everybody on my team, and can't begin to thank Scott & Kathy Chastain enough for all that they've done for me. We have a lot of 360 races coming up, so were going to gear up for those, and hopefully rack up some wins."

Tyler Walker Has Great Run with The Outlaws at Cottage Grove
|
By Gary Costa
Cottage Grove, OR (September 8, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team have proved once again that they can run with anyone at anytime. The team made the tow to Cottage Grove Speedway to do battle with the traveling World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. After the WoO event at Gray's Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington would fall victim to rain, to say that the team was itching for war would be a huge understatement.
Walker would get after it in the Lee Lindgren wrenched SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 in qualifying, turning in a solid 10.151 lap. The lap would be quick enough for seventh out of the stout 31 car field.
Walker proceeded to transfer out of his 10 lap heat race in dramatic fashion by finishing second, and would outrun drivers such as Danny Lasoski, Jason Sides, Robbie Farr, and Brian Ellenberger. By transferring though his heat race, Walker would also toss himself into the 8 lap Crane Cams Dash where he finished ninth.
After making the changes to the car for the feature, Walker would start from the fifth row. When the green flag dropped on the 40 lap affair, it was immediately evident that Lee Lindgren and the team had made the right changes to the car, as Walker was on kill in the No. 24. Without hesitation, Walker began blasting by cars, and worked himself into a battle for the third position. Walker did a masterful driving job and brought the car home in the fourth spot, in the process showing all in attendance why he and team owners, Scott and Kathy Chastain, are the '09 King of California Champions.
"We had to redeem ourselves after Skagit. We were blazing fast there, but obviously our finishes didn't quite show it," Walker said. "The guys had the car real good tonight. I'm just lucky enough to be able to get in, and be able to drive such a great car; I owe it all to my team. Now we're going into the Gold Cup, and I like our chances."
Look for Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team going for the win at the 56th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.

Walker Has Uncharacteristic Weekend with the Outlaws; Looks Forward To Rest of WoO Western Swing
|
By Gary Costa
Alger, WA (September 4-5, 2009) – Newly crowned King of California champion, Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team returned to a track that they have had success and heartbreak all rolled into one. During this year’s Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway, Walker just came up short of winning the race. The team was the class of the field all weekend, and in the 40 lap finale proved that by leading the race until a broken motor spoiled the victory celebration by a mere 6 laps.
The team made the long trek to compete with the World of Outlaws for a two-day stint of winged sprint car action on the fast track. The first night the team whipped around the speedway turning in an 11.295 qualifying lap, which would be good enough for 14th quick out of the 34 car field. Walker went onto win heat race No. 2 in convincing fashion in the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24, which would then put Walker in the 8 lap Crane Cams Dash, where he went onto finish sixth. Walker started outside of row No. 3 in the feature, and when the green flag dropped, Walker was immediately on the hammer, but got crashed out a few times during the race. While charging from the back, Walker managed to work his way back up to tenth, but a car got into him, and Walker would end up flipping the JEI, eventually finishing 16th. The team went through three front wings and three top wings in the main event alone.
“That was wild out there. Our finish doesn’t show how fast we were,” Walker said. “We had to come from the back a couple of times, and we were still blasting by cars with a hurt racecar. The team worked hard all night long, and I can’t thank them enough for all of their hard work.”
During the second night of racing, bad luck would again visit the SC Motorsports team. Walker qualified in the 17th spot. He then transferred through his heat race and started 17th in the feature event. Walker moved through the pack, and charged up to 8th place, and was looking for more when the pinion shaft in the rear-end let go, ending Walker’s night with a 19th place finish.
“We certainly didn’t have the finishes that we wanted and that we are accustomed to. It was a tough weekend for all of us,” Walker explained. “But we’ll just look forward to the rest of the races with the Outlaws during this Western Swing.”
Be sure to catch the Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team in action with the WoO this week at Gray’s Harbor Speedway in Elma, Washington on 9/7 and Cottage Grove Speedway in Cottage Grove, Oregon on 9/8.

Tyler Walker Sets New GSC Win Record with Win; Goes Onto Clinch First GSC Title |
By Gary Costa
Placerville, Ca (August 22, 2009) – In only their second season together, car owners Scott and Kathy Chastain and driver Tyler Walker have put together a winning combination. The team has been flawless in their ’09 campaign as they have turned in a record-setting Golden State Challenge Series season. Walker put an exclamation point on his 2009 Golden State Challenge Series season by not only winning the 30 lap feature at Placerville Speedway, but by also clinching his and SC Motorsports’ first GSC championship.
“I had tears in my eyes when I was on the cool down lap,” Walker shared. “Winning the championship means so much to me. I can’t thank everyone on this team enough. They all worked hard for this, and to win it like we did…..I’m just ecstatic!”
With the Placerville victory, Walker’s win record for the season has totaled 9 victories, and now holds the single season win record that was previously held by Tim Kaeding. The NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 has a total of 10 wins thus far this season. The non-GSC win came at Skagit Speedway where Walker picked-up a preliminary win at the Dirt Cup.
The teams incredible GSC season kicked-off with an eighth place finish at Placerville Speedway on March 28. The following week the team won at Antioch on April 4, and then began to string wins together from there. The team picked-up eight more wins at Petaluma Speedway (2), Ocean Speedway, the Tulare Thunderbowl, Placerville Speedway (2), Santa Maria Speedway, and Silver Dollar Speedway.
The 9 wins is an impressive feat in itself, but what makes it even more impressive is the fact that the SC Motorsports team won features on all different tracks and racing surfaces during the course of the ’09 season. The only tracks not won on were Calistoga and Cottage Grove Speedway in the 24 race season. Rounds 6, 13 and 14 of the Golden State Challenge were lost due to rain. “You couldn’t write a better script. To end the season with another win, win the championship, and set a new season win record; this is unbelievable!”, said Walker.
The road to the team’s ninth victory was an exciting one. The evening started out with an engine swap after wheel-packing. Walker then drilled the Placerville clay, turning in a 10.276 which was good enough for fifth quick out of 25 cars. He finished second in his heat race and in the dash, which put Walker on the outside of the front row next to Kyle Hirst in the feature.
When the green flag flew, Hirst got the jump with Walker following. Jonathan Allard got past Walker during the early stages of the race. Hirst turned over after contact with a spun car. During the red, crew chief Lee Lindgren asked Walker, “How’s the car? Do we need to make any changes?” Walker replied, “No, we’re good, the car is working great!” When the green flag came out again, Walker and Allard went to war, battling each other through lapped traffic. With just a few laps to go, Walker drove to the bottom of the racetrack and passed Allard en route to his record setting ninth GSC victory.
“This is incredible. Tyler drove the wheels off of this thing like he does every night; he just has no quit in him,” winning crew chief Lee Lindgren said. “I’ve got to thank Scott and Kathy Chastain. I love working for them, and to be a part of helping them win this championship means so much to me. I’ve got to thank all of the guys on this team; without them, this dream wouldn’t have become a reality.”
The SC Motorsports team would like to thank all of our sponsors and fans who supported us through the 2009 Golden State Challenge Series season. Scott, Kathy, Tyler, Lee, Jason, Erik, Robby, Nick, Chelsea, Bob and everyone associated with the SC Motorsports organization can’t thank you all enough.

| Walker Has Strong Knoxville Nationals Thursday Run |
By Gary Costa
Knoxville, Iowa (August 13, 2009) – After Thursday night qualifying for the 49th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals, Presented by Lucas Oil, Tyler Walker sits third overall in the points with 482 total points gathered after his strong performance in the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24. Walker has put the SC Motorsports, JEI into tonight’s “A Scramble” which will decide the first five rows for Saturday’s big race. The scramble inverts the first ten cars in points, so Walker will be starting eighth in the event on Friday evening.
Walker went out for his qualifying run and drilled the ½-mile surface, timing in third with a 15.323 with only Dale Blaney and Joey Saldana turning in better qualifying times. In his heat race, Walker immediately got to work when Doug Clark waved the green flag on the 10 lap event. With eight cars inverted in the third heat, Walker would make an incredible charge from his eighth place starting spot to finish third.
Walker would then line-up sixth for the 25 lap feature event, with Stevie Smith, Jr., joining him in the third row. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Walker and Smith went to work on each other fighting each other throughout the event. Smith eventually worked his way around Walker with Walker eventually finishing fifth in the exciting event.
“That was a fun race. I wish we were able to move up more, but I’ll take it,” explained Walker. “I’m just happy to be here, and it’s great seeing all my fans and friends. I think that we have a good car going into the scramble – I’ll definitely be giving it my all.”
Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team will be back in action tonight at Knoxville competing in the “A Scramble”.

Tyler Walker Barely Misses GSC Win Record; Heads to Oskaloosa and Knoxville |
By Gary Costa
Watsonville, CA (August 8, 2009) – Tyler Walker was vying for his record ninth Golden State Challenge Series win of the season at Ocean Speedway in the Scott and Kathy Chastain owned JEI. Walker flew back into town Friday, after competing in the “Steel Palace Classic” in Oswego, NY in USAC Silver Crown competition, where Walker finished seventh.
Walker would apply Shark power to the Ocean Speedway surface, and brought the pristine No. 24 for fifth in qualifying out of the 25 cars that were on the clock. Walker guided the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors Winged Sprint Car to second place in his heat race. His second place finish in the heat tossed him into the all-important 6 lap dash to determine the first four rows of the main event. Walker chased Brad Furr across the line for fifth in the dash, earning him a third row start in the feature.
When the green flag waved on the feature event, all eyes were on Walker as he was making his charge seeking his record setting ninth victory on the GSC season. As the race laps began to click-away, Walker would eventually move past Jason Statler and Tommy Tarlton, and set his sights on race leader, Bud Kaeding. Kaeding would not be denied this evening however, and Walker would settle in for second.
“We had a good car, and I take my hat off to Bud and his team – they did a great job. I wanted to win this one real bad, but it is what it is,” Walker said. “My guys worked real hard all night, and I can’t thank them enough. We’re off to Oskaloosa, and Knoxville, and hopefully we can pick-up a race back there. This GSC championship is going down to the wire - and it should. The last race at Placerville will be an exciting night for sure.”
Tyler Walker will be gunning for victory in the “Front Row Challenge” (he won the ’98 & ’02 versions), on Monday, August 10 and at the Knoxville Nationals. Walker’s qualifying night at Knoxville will be this coming Thursday night.

| Tyler Walker Does It Again: Wins 8th GSC Main Event |
By Gary Costa
Petaluma, CA (August 1, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team had another great weekend en route to their eighth victory of the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car season. The victory also tied Tim Kaeding's single-season win record that was set in 2004. With the victory came a sweep of the events held at Petaluma Speedway (4/11-8/1).
In qualifying, Walker’s night started out with a blistering lap of 11.990 aboard the Lee Lindgren wrenched mount. It was the first time a Sprint Car has ever turned a lap in the 11 second bracket at Petaluma Speedway. In preliminary action Walker lined-up Scott and Kathy Chastain’s lightning-fast JEI for his heat race in the fourth position where Walker flashed across the line in third position. In the dash, Walker sped to finish third.
“The car is just wicked-fast right now. The crew is working their tails off for us to stay ahead of the competition,” Lindgren said. “I can’t put it into words as to how proud I am to be part of this team. Everyone – I mean everyone works real hard to make this team what it is. We’re focused going into Ocean Speedway, but I also have my sights set on winning a race or two in Iowa as well.”
When the green flag flew in the 30 lapper Walker immediately began to chase Brent Kaeding. During the halfway point, Walker wrestled the lead away from Kaeding, and Walker began to work heavy lapped traffic. Walker would not be denied however as he charged to his jaw-dropping eighth victory of the season.
“This win means a lot to me and my team. To win eight main events against these guys is something that we’re real proud of,” Walker said. “I’ve said it all year; I have the best group of people behind me. It’s a great feeling knowing that I’m going to have a fast car under me each and every time that we hit the racetrack.”
Walker carries a 16 point lead into Ocean Speedway this coming Saturday night with just two races remaining in Walker’s charge at his first career King of California title. Walker will also be looking for his ninth win of the GSC season to set a new all-time season win record. Walker picked-up an early season win there back on April 25. After the race at Ocean Speedway, the SC Motorsports team will be heading for Iowa when the Ocean Speedway race concludes. Their first stop will be the Front Row Challenge where Walker is a two-time winner (’98 & ’02) of the event and finished second in his heat race and main event there last year. Then it’s time to get after it at the Knoxville Nationals

| Tyler Walker Scores 7th GSC Win; Takes Points Lead Into Petaluma |
By Gary Costa
Chico, CA (July 24-25, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the whole group from SC Motorsports, showed why they are considered one of the top Sprint Car teams in the country. This past weekend they would compete in a two day show at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA. The team is the series’ feature event leaders with six wins in Golden State Challenge Series competition. They looked to add a couple of more victories before leaving the Chico grounds.
Friday night’s Golden State Challenge Series Sprint car action kicked-off with the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 ripping around the speedway in qualifying turning an 11.799 lap which would time Walker in third, out of the 30 cars that took to the speedway.
In heat race action, Walker would shoot to the outside where contact was made with another car, and Walker would flip the JEI down the back straightaway. With the help from Jonathan Allard, Brent and Bud Kaeding and their crew, they managed to get Walker back out on the speedway where he would charge through the pack to finish second. In the dash, Walker went onto finish fourth.
On the initial start, outside front row starter Brad Bumgarner stopped on the racetrack, which moved up Walker to the outside front row position. When the green flag flew in the 30 lap feature, Walker would settle in the second place position, patiently waiting to attack. On the ninth lap, Walker would look to wrestle the lead away from race leader Kyle Larson, and both drivers would drag race down the front straightaway, and into Turn 1. Walker would never look back, and he went onto win his seventh GSC main event. The victory put Walker one win away from tying the all-time single season GSC win record set by Tim Kaeding with eight victories.
“Tyler is just driving the wheels off of the car. We have assembled one stout team. My goal is to win races. Every time that the car hits the track, my focus and goal is to get the most speed out of the car that I can, and keep Tyler comfortable,” crew chief Lee Lindgren said. “It feels great to win our seventh feature event, but when I wake up the next morning, I’m already 110% focused on performing for Tyler and our team; looking for another win. The points will fall where they will – I want to win races.”
Saturday night would be the 26th Annual Gary Patterson Memorial. Walker’s evening started out by qualifying the powerful mount in the sixth spot out of the 28 cars that took time. In his heat race, the SC Motorsports Sprint Car went onto finish fourth, which would line him up eighth for the dash. The fans were on their feet pumping their fists in the air as Walker blew by four cars in one entertaining lap with him crossing the line in fourth.
Walker slid into his fourth starting position and was gunning for his second victory of the weekend. When the green flag flew, Walker charged into Turns 1 & 2; however he and another car made contact. With the ensuing contact, Walker stopped on the track and was sent to the tail end of the field. It was there that Walker who has no quit in him, put on a show for the fans, working his way through the pack in the Lee Lindgren wrenched machine. Walker was able to put the car anywhere that he wanted on the racetrack. “GP” would have been proud of Walker’s driving prowess, as he eventually finished a hard fought and well deserved third place finish. Walker also will receive some extra cash from Thunderhill Raceway Park in Willows for securing the most points during the two-day show at Chico.
“What a crazy weekend. Lee and the guys had this thing on a rail the whole weekend. I want to thank Jonathan, Brent, Bud, and everyone else who helped get our car back out after the flip,” Walker said. “It just goes to show you that we are competitors out on the track, but when one of us needs something, we help each other out. We have three races to decide this championship, and I’m focused on doing the best that I can for Scott, Kathy (Chastain), and my team. Like I’ve said before, I really hope that the fans are enjoying the racing that we’re putting on; I know that I am.”
The SC Motorsports team will invade Petaluma Speedway this Saturday night. Walker will carry a slim seven point, point’s lead over Jonathan Allard, and a mere 13 points over 13-time King of California Champion, Brent Kaeding who currently sits third in points. We scored our second win of the GSC season during our last visit there on April 18.

Tyler Walker Finishes 4th at Antioch after Rough Beginning
|
By Gary Costa
Antioch, CA (July 18, 2009) – Antioch Speedway would be on tap for the SC Motorsports team. The team entered the race as the leader as the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car point’s standings, but came out holding onto second after the race was completed. The team was coming off of a dominating performance the prior week at Santa Maria Speedway, where Tyler Walker drilled the competition in the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24.
The Shark power was evident in Antioch qualifying, as Walker blasted around the speedway clocking in with a 12.310 which would be fast enough to qualify him in the second spot. The night was going relatively well until Walker was involved in a heat race shunt as the green flag flew. The car drilled the front straightaway fence hard, and Walker would finish last in the event.
The SC Motorsports team quickly went to work fixing the broken parts on the racecar, and preparing it for the 30 lap main event. With Walker not transferring through his heat race, he would not be eligible for the dash that setup the first eight starting positions on the grid which would put Walker in the ninth starting position.
When the green flag flew to start the 30 lap main event, Walker would drop back to around 14th but gathered the racecar up nicely, and then began his charge forward. Walker was working his way forward all the while knowing that he wasn't awarded any heat race points due to the crash. Walker had his elbows up, and he was coming in the Lee Lindgren tuned JEI. 30 hard fought laps later, Walker flashed under the checkered flag in the fourth position.
“I can’t thank my guys enough. The car was a little free in the main event, but the team never gave up. This point’s deal keeps going back and forth, but I really hope that the fans are enjoying it,” Walker said. “We have two shows at Chico this weekend so we’ll just load it up, and get after it over there. It’s getting down to it, so we have to string together strong finishes in the rest of the races.”
You can catch Tyler Walker this Friday and Saturday night with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The last time that The SC Motorsports team visited Chico, they timed in second, scored a second place finish in their heat race, and finished second in the feature event for a very successful Fourth of July night. Only five races remain to crown the 2009 King of California Champion.

Tyler Walker Finishes 2nd in July 4th GSC Barnburner
|
By Gary Costa
Chico, CA (July 4, 2009) – After having a rough couple of weeks, things went back to normal for the SC Motorsports camp at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The Scott Chastain owned NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24, Tyler Walker piloted JEI Sprint Car turned in a performance that it’s used to; running up front.
Walker would start his night out by pounding Alan Padjen’s surface with a 12.081 qualifying effort. In his heat race he went onto finish second, which would start him seventh in the all important dash, where he quickly worked his way up to third in only 6 laps of racing.
Walker slid the powerful mount into his third starting spot for the 30 lap feature event. When the green flag was unfurled, Walker chased Bud Kaeding and Jonathan Allard through turns 1 & 2. Walker eventually got around Allard and set his sights on race leader Kaeding. Walker and Kaeding would thrill the Chico fans as both were driving each other clean and hard providing their own fireworks out on the racetrack. Kaeding would retain the top-spot and charge to victory in the entertaining 30 lapper, with Walker crossing the line in second.
“That was a great race! I had a lot of fun out there, and I hope the fans enjoyed it,” Walker said. “I want to congratulate Bud and his team; they did a great job all weekend for him. I also want to thank my guys. We have had a rough couple of weeks, but these guys just never gave up.”
Santa Maria Speedway will be up next for Tyler Walker and the team. The race will be the inaugural Doug Fort Memorial and will also be Round No. 18 for the GSC.

TYLER WALKER HAS UNCHARACTERISTIC TULARE RUN
|
By Gary Costa
Tulare, CA – The SC Motorsports team headed to the Tulare Thunderbowl to compete with the Golden State Challenge Series Winged 410 Sprint Car Series. Walker and the team had high hopes to repeat what they did back on May 16th at the speedway – win the main event.
The team figured that they had left all of their bad luck back in Skagit, Washington where Walker was headed toward winning the big Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, but the racing gods had other plans as Walker lost the motor with 5 laps to go.
The night would start out promising for Walker with him qualifying the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 in the third slot with a 14.451 lap. Walker then went onto finish third in his heat race and won the dash which set him up on the front row of the 30 lap feature event.
When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Walker would lose a couple of positions on the racetrack, and then contact was made with Kyle Larson, with Larson taking a ride. Walker suffered a flat right rear tire during the melee and was forced to start at the rear of the field. Walker would do what he could to move up, but unfortunately he would eventually finish a disappointing ninth.
“Tonight was real frustrating. I’m not going to complain though; I’m able to do what I love to do. I would like to congratulate Brent Kaeding and his team on their win,” Walker explained. “They did a great job tonight. It was just one of those nights. The guys worked real hard all night long, and that’s all I can ask for. We’ll just load it up, and look forward to Chico; we’re not ready to layover and tap out just yet.”
The next event for Tyler Walker will come at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for Round No. 17 for more GSC action. Walker currently sits third in the points standings. Walker finished fourth in the main event after coming from the back of the field in the last Chico GSC visit on May 9th.

Heartbreak City Sets In For Tyler Walker in Dirt Cup Finale
|
By Gary Costa
Alger, WA (June 20, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team had a very successful 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup....up until Lap 35 on Saturday night. Up to that point, Walker won his heat race and Thursday's preliminary event. He then claimed fast time honors and charged from 16th to sixth in Friday's feature.
Going into Saturday's finale, Walker went into the event as the point's leader with 1,100 points earned for the two nights of racing held. Walker's night began by winning the 6 lap A-scramble, which put him on the pole for the $25,000 to win 40 lap feature event.
When the green flag was unfurled on the main event, fellow front row starter Jayme Barnes, would get the jump with Walker storming around the Skagit Speedway surface in the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 close behind.
Walker made a move for the lead on Barnes on the eighth go around in the Lee Lindgren wrenched JEI. As Walker was completing Lap 20, misfortune would strike the Scott Chastain owned mount as a broken radiator hose began pushing water out of the motor.
Amazingly the motor was still producing enough horsepower to maintain the lead. However on a Lap 35 yellow flag, the motor seized up and a dejected Walker would come to a stop on the front straightaway, ending his evening 5 laps from the finish of the race.
"It's just one of those things. We were going around there pretty well and we broke a hose. The motor was strong all weekend, and it's just one of those things," Walker said. "This is Sprint Car racing and you just never know what's going to happen. I would like to congratulate Jayme and his crew. All we can do is put this one behind us, and go onto the next race. I would also like to thank all of the great fans in Washington for all of their support; thank you."
"We didn't win the race, but we can leave with our heads held high. My crew worked their tails off all week, and I can't thank them enough for that. I have the best team and car owner that a driver could ask for," Walker concluded.
Tyler Walker will be seeking the points lead and win this Saturday at the Tulare Thunderbowl for Round No. 16 in Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series action. Walker currently sits second in the standings, eight points from leader Jonathan Allard. Walker picked-up the last GSC race there on May 16th.

Tyler Walker Charges to Opening Night Dirt Cup Win
|
|
By Gary Costa
ALGER, WA (June 18, 2009) – Tyler Walker won night number one of the 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup in the SC Motorsports No. 24 at Skagit Speedway in exciting fashion in the Scott Chastain owned mount.
Walker timed in 13th quick out of the 41 cars that took time with an 11.742 qualifying lap. Walker then went onto pound the Skagit Speedway surface by winning heat three in convincing fashion in the NMI Industrial Contractors JEI.
When the green flew for the 30-lap feature event, Walker began his charge to the front of the pack from his ninth starting spot. Walker eventually moved into second, with his sights set on race leader Jason Solwold. On a Lap-23 restart, Walker made his move and proceeded to pass Solwold for the lead and the opening night race win.
"This is awesome! We got a little behind in qualifying, but the guys didn't give up and worked real hard to get the car dialed in for the rest of the night," a jubilant Walker said. "Scott Chastain gives us what we need to win, and the crew knows how to make the car work and keep me comfortable when I'm in the car. I want to thank all of my fans. I have the best group of fans that a guy can ask for, and I hope that we can continue running like this so hopefully we can celebrate with them on Skagit Speedway's front straightaway Saturday night!"
The opening night win makes Walker the early point's leader for the 38th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup thus far. Tonight is a complete show, with points from both nights being combined to determine the main event line-up on Saturday.

Tyler Walker Gets "Warmed Up" For 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup
|
By Gary Costa
Cottage Grove, OR (June 15, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team were happy to be racing again with the Golden State Challenge Series again after suffering frustrating rainouts two weeks in a row. The most recent rainout occurred at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR on June 13th. The team is making their way to Skagit Speedway in Washington, for the 38th edition of the Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup.
A Golden State Challenge Series stop graced the Cottage Grove Speedway grounds with Walker qualifying the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 fifth quick turning a 10.509. In heat race No. 2 action, Walker would go onto finish fourth. Walker would then start fifth in the dash, but a folded front end would relegate him to a seventh place finish.
In the 30-lap feature event, Walker would have his work cut out for him from his fourth row starting spot. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway Walker would begin his charge. With 20 furious non-stop laps in the books, Walker moved himself in the sixth spot. He then would flash under the checkered flag in Scott Chastain's JEI in the fifth position.
"It was just one of those nights. We didn't run like we wanted to at all," Walker said. "All we can do is move on. I'm really looking forward to the Dirt Cup though. Last year we ran real strong there and I'm excited about our chances."
You can catch Tyler Walker at the 38th Annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup starting this Thursday. Thursday night kicks off three intense days of Sprint Car action, June 18th-20th. Last year in preliminary action, Walker finished third on Thursday, and fifth on Friday. Saturday, he won the 6-lap "A scramble" and led the first 12 laps of the 40-lap event. He then got into a slugfest with eventual winner Jayme Barnes before settling for eighth.

Tyler Walker and SC Motorsports Show Strength in Civil War Series Run
|
6/3/09
Placerville, CA (June 3, 2009) – Tyler Walker returned to Placerville Speedway, a track that the SC Motorsports Team was victorious at last Saturday May 30th. The win came after an exciting Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series 30-lap feature event. The win at Placerville would mark the team's fifth win of the season in GSC competition.
The NMI Industrial Contractors, Scott Chastain owned JEI competed in "Wild Winged Wednesday" which was a Civil War Series 360 Sprint Car event. The last time the team dropped a 360 power plant in the car was back on March 7th at Marysville Speedway in the "Spring Sprint Car Open" where Walker charged to fourth after coming from the back of the field.
Walker went out and ripped around the speedway in the Lee Lindgren wrenched mount in qualifying. Walker timed in with a 10.500 which was good enough for fourth quick out of the 37 stout Sprint Cars in the Placerville pit area.
Heat No. 4 would be the first race of the evening for the LA hot shoe. Walker would start in the sixth position and he knows that the laps tick off at a furious pace at Placerville. Walker knew that he would have his work cut out for him, so when the green flew without any hesitation from the Shark Racing Engine, Walker immediately went to work on the field finishing in the second spot.
With rain threatening the area Walker would start third next to Andy Forsberg. When the green lights flashed on around the speedway, Walker began maneuvering his way to the front and after moving into second he was doing all that he could with the racy Forsberg. On the 15th go around Walker began seeing rain drops on his visor. Unfortunately the race was checkered on lap-18 with Walker finishing second.
"We had a strong run, but I was really hoping that we would be able to get more laps in for the fans. It's pretty neat to be racing on a Wednesday though," Walker said. "It brings back a lot of memories from when I was running with the World of Outlaws and the All-Stars. It is so much fun racing with this team. Scott (Chastain) is a great car owner and the team is behind me 100%."
Saturday (June 6th) the SC Motorsports Team was scheduled to race with the GSC at American Valley Speedway in Quincy, CA, but the weather gods had other plans as the race was cancelled. The next race for the SC Motorsports Team will come in Round No. 13 at Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR June 13th for more GSC Sprint Car action.

Tyler Walker Scores 5th Victory in GSC Competition
|
By Gary Costa
Watsonville, CA – Placerville, CA (May 29-30, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team would have a bevy of racing activity in store for the talented team. The weekend would be full of bullring mania, with events being held at Ocean Speedway, Friday and Placerville Speedway, Saturday. Both events would be Golden State Challenge Series races.
Walker put on a show for the fans last weekend at Calistoga Speedway. Saturday night, he took a hard one, but was ready to fight for Sunday's race by finishing fourth via his 13th starting spot in the well prepared Scott Chastain owned No. 24.
After the Calistoga events, the points would slip out of his hands and go into Jonathan Allards. With that being said, Walker loves a fight and again showed this weekend why he one of the best Sprint Car drivers in the country.
Ocean Speedway's event would be Round No. 11 for the GSC Series. Walker's night would begin with a kink in it as he would qualify the NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24, 15th out of the 24 car field. However, as the night went on, Walker got better and faster. He finished second in Heat No. 3 after starting fifth.
With an uncharacteristic bad qualifying time, he would miss the dash and start 15th. When the green came out, Walker immediately got his elbows up and began his charge through the field. He was relentless and picked off car after car in the 30-lap affair. After getting around Evan Suggs, Walker went onto finish sixth.
"We just screwed up in qualifying and got behind real quick," Walker said. "But my team never gave up, and with all things considered we still had a good finish. I've got to put this race behind me, and prepare myself for Placerville."
And he did just that. Saturday the team would contend with the GSC once again. The race would be Round No. 12 for more Winged 410 Sprint Car action, this time coming on the ¼- mile bullring at Placerville Speedway.
Walker qualified eight out of the 20 car field. In Heat No. 2, Walker would make the most out of his outside front row starting spot. At the drop of the green flag, he raced into turn-1 and would never look back taking the win.
In the dash, Walker would again take advantage of his outside front row starting spot. When Walker took the checkered flag, he had at least a straightaway lead on the second place car. His win would put him on the inside of the front row next to Bud Kaeding.
He would get the jump on Kaeding when the green flag came out and immediately started to distance him from the rest of the field. In the waning laps, Jonathan Allard, who charged from sixth began challenging Walker. On the white flag lap, Allard dropped to the bottom in turns 3-4 and pulled along side Walker. However, Tyler kept his foot in it and took home an exciting win.
The Placerville win marks the team's fifth win of the season. Antioch Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, Ocean Speedway and Tulare Raceway have all been graced with the immaculate SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 in victory lane.
"We had everything go right for us tonight," Walker explained. "After qualifying bad and getting behind early last night, I wanted to make sure that I didn't do that again. I would like to thank Scott (Chastain) and my whole team. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors and the fans."
Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports Team will be racing this Wednesday in the Civil War Series event dubbed "Wild Winged Wednesday". Saturday, they will make a stop at American Valley Speedway in Quincy, CA for Round No. 13, for more Golden State Challenge Series Sprint Car action.

5/24/09 : Walker Rebounds from Nasty Spill to Finish 4th in Salute to Walter T Ross
|
By Gary Costa
Calistoga, CA - (May 23-24, 2009) – The SC Motorsports Team pulled into the hallowed grounds of Calistoga Speedway to race with the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The event would be a two-day show held over Memorial Weekend at the historic ½-mile Speedway.
Going into the event the Scott Chastain owned mount has been on fire as the LA masher has won 4 out of the last 7 Golden State Challenge Series Sprint Car events held thus far.
The NMI Industrial Contractors, Shark powered No. 24 would unload in the Calistoga sun as the point's leaders in the series, holding the slimmest of margins over Jonathan Allard. The previous weekend the team put it to the field by leading all 30-laps at the Tulare Thunderbowl.
Saturday night, Walker would qualify sixth out of the 21-car field turning 17.610. He would then go onto finish second in Heat No. 3. By Walker getting through his heat race, he put himself in the all important dash where he finished third.
The 25-lap main event had Walker lineup third on the inside of Bud Kaeding. When the green light went on around the racetrack, Walker became a missile in the No. 24 and immediately put himself in the second position. However on lap-7, while moving through lapped traffic, he was pinched into the wall going into turns 1-2. With a full head of steam, he clipped the wall and took a violent series of flips. The car was a little less for wear, but thankfully Walker walked away.
"When he was flipping, he was as high as the top of the fence," crew chief Lee Lindgren said. "It's a real testament to the Hans device and ButlerBuilt seats. His hip was a little bit sore, but that's about it."
Without hesitation, the SC Motorsports Team immediately went to work so that they would be able to race the next day. They pulled down the spare car and dropped another bullet in. The team went over everything with a fine toothed comb to make sure everything was safe and ready for Walker.
Sunday, Walker circled the speedway turning 17.575. What didn't work out for the team would make for an exciting night for the fans as his qualifying time would immediately put him behind the "8-ball". Walker went onto finish fifth in Heat No. 2.
By missing the dash, Walker would have to start 13th and things were starting to look bleak for the LA shoe. But when the green flew Walker was on the methanol and making moves. The SC Motorsports driver was locked and loaded and tearing through the pack. Walker and the team never gave up and eventually finished fourth in a hard fought race.
"We will never give up, no matter what the circumstances are," Lindgren said proudly. "What happened Saturday is part of racing. We will just keep soldiering on and drilling away. I'm real proud of Tyler and the whole SC Motorsports team for never giving up!"
Tyler Walker will do battle this Friday at Ocean Speedway and then Saturday, it's onto Placerville Speedway. Walker won the last GSC race held at Ocean Speedway on April 25th.

5/16/09 : Walker Walks Away With 4th Golden State Challenge Win
|
By Gary Costa
Tulare, CA (May 16, 2009) – Tyler Walker, aboard the SC Motorsports Team JEI, led all 30-laps en route to their fourth Golden State Challenge victory of the season coming at the Tulare Thunderbowl for stop No. 8, in the Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series. The team has now won four out of the seven races held in GSC competition. Walker was the point's leader entering the event and was focused on extending the lead in the potent SC Motorsports No. 24.
Walker started his night out qualifying the NMI Industrial Contactors No. 24 to fifth quick turning 13.664 on the 3/8-mile high-banked oval. Walker would follow Kyle Larson for second across the line in Heat No. 2. In the Dash, the field would only be able complete one circuit before the race was called. Larson tumbled and his car got tangled up in the catch fence. Due to time restraints the officials called the event.
This would put the L.A. gasser on the outside front row with Tim Kaeding who stopped by for a visit after running with the World of Outlaws. When the green flag was unfurled, Walker would get the jump and immediately went to work at the top of the racetrack on the slick racing surface.
A battle broke out halfway through the event with Walker and Tommy Tarlton. Tarlton would throw a slide job and Walker would return the favor by turning the car back under him. Walker eventually found the rubber on the racetrack then drove away and hid from the rest of the field for his fourth win.
"I'm so proud of this team, they have this JEI really dialed in," said Walker. "I love this track and all of the fans that come out here to watch us race. I need to thank all of our sponsors. The Shark Racing Engine was hitting hard and I can't wait to go to Calistoga and let it rip this weekend."
With the Tulare victory, Walker slightly lengthened his points lead over Chico's Jonathan Allard. This weekend the SC Motorsports Team's Rig will roll into Calistoga Speedway's big ½-mile over Memorial Weekend for the two-day GSC race and contest Rounds 9 & 10.

| 5/10/09 : Walker Rebounds From Spin To Finish 4th At Bradway |
By Gary Costa Chico, Ca. – (May 8-9, 2009) – Golden State Challenge Sprint Car star and points leader Tyler Walker has been on fire the last few weeks in the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 JEI. The Scott Chastain owned mount would park in Chico for two days to compete in the regular Friday night 410 show and prepare themselves for the prestigious Golden State Challenge sanctioned 40-lap Dave Bradway, Jr. Memorial. Friday night, Walker was the 31st car out and qualified second out of the 33 car field, pounding the ¼-mile speedway with an 11.449. In Heat No. 2, Walker finished fourth and took the last transfer spot after starting from his sixth position. Walker would then start the 25-lap main event in the fifth position. As the action out on the racetrack would start to heat up, unfortunately so did the motor. Walker wisely pulled the No. 24 off of the racing surface. Taking no chances, the team chose to change out the bullet and replace it for the next evening of competition. Like the professionals that they are, the team went to work, put Friday behind them and focused themselves for the next evening’s races. Walker again would go out late in the qualifying field as he was the 33rd car out. He was able to turn a nice lap which qualified him in the fourth position out of the 35 cars that took time. Walker would immediately go to work in Heat No. 1. From his fifth starting spot, he was able to chase Andy Forsberg to the checkered flag for second place. With Walker transferring into the feature, it also put him in the dash where the Los Angeles driver finished third. From his third starting Walker didn’t waste anytime when the green light came on. Walker quickly moved into the third spot; however he was pacing himself in the 40-lap affair. As the laps clicked off, the car started pulling wheelies due to the nose cone coming loose. Around the halfway point in the race the red flag flew and an “open red” was called. The crew noticed a broken water fitting on the motor. The team fixed the nose cone, but was unable to fix the broken line. Walker was pushed back off and went to war with Jonathan Allard. During the battle, Walker’s right rear slipped over the edge of the turn and he proceeded to spin out and was forced to start at the back-of-the-pack. Never one to give up, Walker pushed off and fought for every position that he could. While moving forward, the broken waterline reared its ugly head, and started releasing water, the motor would begin to “lie down”, but he still managed to finish fourth in the wild night. “I am really proud of the team,” proud crew chief Lee Lindgren said. “With everything that went on this weekend they never gave up. This is a team effort. Tyler drove as hard as he could after spinning Saturday and I’m real proud of him too. We will move on and we are all looking forward to Tulare.” UP Next For SC Motorsports!: Tyler Walker will seek his fourth win and will also look to put some points distance between himself and Dave Bradway, Jr., Memorial winner, Jonathan Allard this Saturday, May 16th for Round No. 8 of the Golden State Challenge Series at the Tulare Thunderbowl. Watsonville, Ca. (April 24, 2009) – Tyler Walker and the SC Motorsports team would score their second consecutive Golden State Challenge Sprint Car win in spectacular fashion at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. The team has not finished out of the top-8 in five of the GSC races entered this year.
"I told Scott (Chastain), that we are going to have a great year," Walker said. "Every time that I show up at the racetrack, I have the confidence in my guys that the car will be fast."
The team is rapidly gaining momentum, with April being a productive month for Scott Chastain's, SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24, JEI. Ocean Speedway would become the site for the teams' third win. The capable team, has garnered two other wins in GSC competition this season, with victories coming at Antioch Speedway, April 4th, and last weekend at Petaluma Speedway.
Heading into the fifth round of the series, Tyler would carry a slim 4 point lead into the event over the always tough and current King of California, Jonathan Allard.
In qualifying, Walker would flash around the ¼-mile speedway in the Lee Lindgren wrenched mount to second quick, out of the 21 car field - timing in with an 11.889. In Heat 2, Walker would finish second to Bud Kaeding. In the all important dash, Walker would finish fourth, which would put him in the second row of the 30-lap feature.
When the feature went green, Walker would immediately pounce, and start his charge from his fourth starting spot. Walker was calculating and made every move count on the racy surface. With three laps to go, Walker put the heat on leader Allard. On the white flag lap, Walker would go to the top of the racetrack in turns 1 & 2, and utilize the Don Ott power under the hood. He proceeded to pass Allard, and drove to victory in the exciting event.
"It was an awesome race. Once we got in lapped traffic, we reeled them in. The guys had the car good and most everyone was running the bottom of the racetrack. I just hauled it in on the top and the car stuck. Jonathan and Brent are as tough as they come and to be able to pass them is a great feeling. I'm really looking forward to Tulare!"

| 4/18/09 : TDUB WINS AT PETALUMA |
Walker holds off Allard for entertaining Petaluma Golden State Challenge 410 Series victory
By Gary Thomas
Petaluma, CA – April 18, 2009…An exciting conclusion to the main event on Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway saw Los Angeles, CA's Tyler Walker narrowly beat out Chico's Jonathan Allard at the line to score his second victory of the young Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series season.
The win for Walker marked the seventh triumph of his GSC career and moved him into the ninth spot on the all-time win list, joining Jimmy Sills, Greg Decaires and Randy Hannagan. Walker's fastest lap in the feature of 12.111 aboard his Lee Lindgren tuned machine was also the quickest lap ever turned at the Petaluma Speedway. Interestingly the ultra talented driver was just over a tenth of a second off the all-time track record at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway in his heat race last week as well.
Walker started from the pole in the 30 lap feature after winning the dash for the first time this season, but early on had his hands full with fellow front row starter and young upstart Brandon Carey. Following a pair of jam-ups on the first pair of starts that led to cautions, the front row starters drag raced down the front stretch on the third start and put on a thrilling first lap show that saw Carey out-wheel Walker into turn three to claim the lead.
Carey was doing a tremendous job out front as Walker stalked him every step of the way through the early stages. Cautions on lap three and lap nine though kept drivers out of traffic, but following this some green flag laps were able to click off and the racing heated up on the tacky 3/8 mile clay oval. When the green flag flew again traffic came into play after just a few laps and it allowed Walker and Allard the chance to close in.
With Carey in his sights Walker put his SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 on the outer regions of the Petaluma Speedway and got side by side with Carey in turn two on lap 14, but couldn't make the pass. He stayed with it however, and used the same move the following lap to gain enough momentum entering turn three to rocket around the outside of Carey and make the exciting move to claim the top spot.
At that same instance Allard followed right along and slipped underneath Carey to slice into second and begin to set his sights on Walker. With heavy duty traffic ahead of the leaders it allowed the top four cars to bunch up and become nose to tail, but unfortunately a caution on lap 17 slowed the extremely intense action.
On the restart Allard biked in turns one and two, which allowed Walker to zoom away in the open track. Once traffic came back into play however, Walker began to fight a tight condition like most everyone did in turn two as the exit of the corner had gotten choppy. A number of times it looked like cars might bounce around enough to tip over, but all of the drivers did a tremendous job to wrestle their 850 hp sprinters back down to the ground.
With Walker trapped in traffic Allard closed back in once again and made it a battle for the lead, but just as soon as it looked like it might be a shootout in the closing laps, the caution lights came back on for a spun car on lap 25 in turn four. When the green flag came back out for the final time Walker scooted away in the open track and looked to be on way to an easy victory, but traffic with just a couple laps left, coupled with Allard making a great charge, made for an exciting finish right down to the wire.
With the white flag out Walker played it safe getting into traffic, but at the same time Allard drove his Williams Motorsports, K&N Filters No. 0 extremely hard into turns one and two. It gave him a lot of momentum and he closed right up on Walker's bumper entering turn three. With heavy lapped traffic in front of them Allard went high off the final corner and got to the outside of Walker, but the Los Angeles driver was able to beat him out by about a foot at the line to pick up the victory as both drivers dealt with slower cars in their fight to the stripe.
The exciting victory was redemption for Walker and his SC Motorsports team after tough luck in lapped traffic last season took them out of contention while leading both main events in Petaluma. "I just have to thank Scott and Kathy Chastain, Lee Lindgren and this whole team for giving me a great car tonight," Walker said. "This track was hooked up tonight and it was pretty thrilling when traffic came into play cause it's really tough to get by the slower cars at this place."
For Allard it was his second runner-up of the season and the third time in four starts that he was in position to bring home a victory, yet came up just shy at the finish. It kept up the strong recent trend of success for Allard at Petaluma however; as the two-time King of California has finished either first or second in half of the Golden State Challenge Series events at the track since 2005.
Coming home in third was 13-time King of California Brent Kaeding who made a nice late race move to earn his second podium finish of the season. The driver of the Al's Roofing Supply, Kaeding Performance No. 69 spent much of the race locked in some entertaining battles among the top five and showed strength running with a fresher power-plant under the hood during the night. "BK" was also the fastest qualifier in the field to start the evening.
Elk Grove's Kyle Larson made a nice charge in the feature to come home in fourth and earn his second straight top five finish aboard the Vertullo Racing, G&N Construction No. 83v. The 16 year-old was running in eighth with nine laps down and fought his way forward as he diced it up with a number of drivers, including Kaeding during the later stages of the feature. The youngster continues to impress in his first full year of 410 sprint car racing.
Carey, another impressive youngster, crossed the stripe in fifth after leading the first half of the feature. It marked the first career top five finish for the driver of the Carey Racing No. 55, who was very impressive in limited starts last season and has come back this year showing a lot of speed once again. The Ripon racer has shown the ability to gas-it-up with the best of them and has displayed a thrilling no-fear driving style in his limited starts with the Golden State Challenge Series.
Rounding out the top 10 in the feature were Grass Valley's Jason Statler, Chico's Jason York, 18th starter Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Scotts Valley's Evan Suggs and row 10 starter Bradley Terrell of Sebastopol.
The Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series will be back in action next Saturday night at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville.

| 4/5/09 : Tyler Wins at Antioch |
(Antioch, CA) – April 5, 2009… By: Gary Thomas - Los Angeles throttle-masher Tyler Walker is always guaranteed to put on a show and he thrilled the fans once again on Saturday night by charging to victory during an entertaining late race duel with Jonathan Allard in lapped traffic at the Antioch Speedway.
Walker, who finished runner-up in the Golden State Challenge points last season, moved into tie for 10th on the all-time series win list joining Randy Tiner, Paul McMahan and Bobby McMahan with six career wins apiece. "Man I just can't say enough about this 24 team," Walker said. "Lee had this thing hooked up and it was a great race and a lot of fun in traffic those last handful of laps.
"
The 30 lap Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series main event started off with San Jose's Tim Kaeding jumping out into the lead from the pole position, but it didn't last long as the yellow lights came off for a spun car in turn two. On the ensuing restart two-time & defending King of California Jonathan Allard would find the traction he needed up high to blast into the lead from the outside of the front row.
A caution on the fourth lap would slow the action, but following this a long green flag run was seen, which allowed competitors to dice it up in lapped traffic for an extended period of time. When the green flag waved again Allard maintained a decent advantage out front as he navigated lapped traffic to perfection aboard his Williams Motorsports No. 0.
The battle to watch had become the fight for second as T.Kaeding had company in the form of Tyler Walker. As lap 10 clicked off Walker was able to get side by side with the Roth Motorsports No. 83jr, but couldn't complete the pass on the tricky slicked off surface. Walker didn't give up however, and on lap 12 would execute a slide job in turn three to move in front of Kaeding and into second. The pair would then proceed to exchange the position a few more times over the next couple of circuits until Walker got the advantage on lap 14.
Once in second Walker then began to reel in Allard as lapped traffic continued to be a factor for the front runners. The driver of the SC Motorsports, NMI Industrial Contractors No. 24 had found the high side of turns three and four to his liking and just as he was getting ready to sweep around the outside of Allard on lap 19, the yellow lights would flash on.
When the green flag came back out for the final time with 11 laps to go Walker continued to run the high line in turns three and four, trying everything to get by Allard. He would close in on the entry of the turn, but exiting the fourth corner Allard seemed to have the advantage in the open track. It all changed when traffic came into play however, as the lapped cars were running side by side making every move crucial in the final outcome.
A blanket could be thrown over the top few cars and as the 25th lap was clicked off the action became extremely intense on the Antioch Speedway bullring. With just four laps remaining Allard tried to negotiate a lapped car down low, but would lose momentum for just a split second and that's all Walker needed to rocket off the second corner to take the top spot away. Allard then had to fight off T.Kaeding and now Brent Kaeding in the battle for second.
The trio would have a tussle for the runner-up position on lap 28, until Allard made a great move in turns one and two up high to charge around a few lapped cars and get right back behind Walker to challenge for the lead once again. Allard would get up to the bumper of the green 24 sprinter, but Walker drove a perfect final lap to march on and take the checkered flag by a few car lengths to score his sixth career Golden State Challenge Series victory. It also marked Walker's second straight win in the April GSC event at the Antioch Speedway.
After leading the first 26 laps of the main event Allard crossed the stripe in second to tie his best career Antioch Speedway finish. T.Kaeding ran most of the race with a sour sounding engine as he had reportedly lost a cylinder, but was able to beat out Brent Kaeding by about an inch at the line for the third spot. For "BK" it was another good run as he came on strong at the end from his fifth row starting spot in the Al's Roofing Supply No. 69.
Crossing the line in fifth was sixth row starter Kyle Hirst in the GP Development No. 6, but unfortunately got upside down just past the start-finish line following the checkered after banging wheels with another competitor. He was ok, but it was a rough way to end a good run for the 21 year-old from Loomis. Campbell's Bud Kaeding came home in sixth aboard the Alviso Rock No. 29 as he gets set to head back to Eldora next week for a USAC non-wing event.
GSC rookie contender Kyle Larson had a strong run from the rear of the field as he carved his way through the pack on the tricky race track. The 16 year-old, Elk Grove resident drove the Vertullo Motorsports No. 83v from the 16th starting position to finish seventh in the main event. Rounding out the top 10 it was the DF Rios Construction No. 00 of Jason Statler, the Murphy Motorsports No. 13 of Peter Murphy and the Bjork Construction No. 7b of Brent Bjork.
The Golden State Challenge Series will return to action at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway next Saturday night April 11. More news and info can be found at http://www.goldenstatechallengeseries.com
